OAK BAY – Ryan is 18 years old and has Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy. He has been confined to a wheelchair since he was 10 years old. He says that he would not change anything in his life. He feels he would not be who is today without the DMD and that it has taught him so much, such as enjoying every moment you can together. He is always smiling and puts his school work first. Studying and doing homework for hours, he has maintained a 4.6-5.0 GPA throughout high school. His goal is to receive a masters in Child and Youth care so he can council other families trying to deal with disabilities.
He is currently taking peer counselling at school and has recently used the skills he has learned to help another peer with DMD deal with their distress. He amazes everyone around him every day. Ryan is truly an amazing kid!
